There are a large number of tasks in every company which, due to their complexity, can no longer be carried out individually, in day-to-day business or as part of everyday processes. In order to successfully implement such tasks, effective project management is required. Although the ISO 9001 standard and the IATF 16949 standard for the automotive industry do not require project management, they do explicitly refer to project management for certain tasks in product realization. Industry-specific standards such as VDA 6.3 Process Audits for the German automotive industry or the IRIS standard for the rail industry go further and require project management on a mandatory basis. The APQP and VDA maturity assurance guidelines for new parts are based on project management and supplement it with regard to specific requirements of the automotive industry.
Regardless of the industry, project management is useful and necessary for every company. Project management can be used for numerous topics in the product realization process, but also for organizational projects, projects for the new or redesign of infrastructure, work environment, buildings, etc., improvement projects, projects for the further development of the management system, etc. The important thing is that project management is properly planned and applied.
